* Deepest Trench - Puerto Rico Trench - 8,376m
* Deepest point - Milwaukee Deep in the Puerto Rico Trench -8,605m




Atlantic Ocean Facts:

* Youngest Ocean on Earth - around 180 million years.
* Name derived from Greek mythology - Atlantis Thalassa- meaning sea of Atlas
* Saltiest Ocean - salinity of the surface water is nearly 33 to 37 parts per thousand (PPM)
* Experience Highest Tides in the world at times reach nearly 50 feet high.

* Ice bergs common - in 1912 the Titanic sank in the Atlantic Ocean.

* World's richest fishing waters . Also contains rich natural gas and oil deposits.
* 1st Ocean to be crossed by Airplane or Ship 
* First passager ship to cross Atlantic Ocean Cunard Line (1850s)

Cancun Reef :


* Second largest Barrier Reef in the world, the Cancun Reef - off the coast of Mexico.
* Also called - Mesoamerican Reef System.
* Spread over a length of almost 1,000kms



Bermuda Triangle:



*Triangle Area between Miami ( Florida) , Bermuda and San Juan ( Puerto Rico).
* Also known as - Devils Triangle or Hurricane Alley .
* Held responsible for mysterious shipwrecks disappearance and air crashs.




Mid- Atlantic - Ridge :

* Mostly underwater mountain system formed by plate tectonics - divergent plate boundary.
* Discoverd in 1950s
* Runs from 87° N (about 333km) South of North pole- to 54° S ,just north of coast Antarctica.
* Atlantic basin is growing at the ridge, at a rate of about 2.5cm per year in an east- west direction.






Atlantic Joins Arctic:



Through:  Denmark strait
                 Greenland sea
                 Norwegian sea
                 Barents sea

Atlantic Joins Indian:
* In the southeast, the Atlantic merges into the Indian Ocean. The 20° East Meridian defined it's border.

Atlantic Joins Pacific:
Dark passage in the southwest of Atlantic Oceans.



Information:

* Panama Canal - an artificial 82km wide water way in Panama.

* Panama is the narrowest landmass between the two Ocean.
